Meet Flora Chang

PPD Lead, Oils & Fats in APAC

Upon completing her Ph.D. in Vegetable Protein, Cereals and Oils & Fats, Flora Chang found Cargill to be a natural place to build her career. Not only could she put her education to good use, but Flora also connected with Cargill’s core values. Throughout her career, she has felt at home and found Cargill’s culture to be the perfect combination of communication, collaboration and career advancement.

As part of our Shanghai office, Flora manages three Product and Process Development (PPD) teams based in China, Malaysia and India, all focusing on developing good oils and fats to improve our health and quality of life. Working with these different teams in service of one unified mission is something she has found to be quite rewarding. Even though they are in different countries, Flora considers herself and the teams she works with to be part of a single family.

What made you choose Cargill?

My major in university was related to agriculture, and Cargill’s values of putting people first, reaching higher to create a lasting impact and doing the right thing closely align with my own. I love that we can all engage with each other and rally around these values to move forward, even if we have different points of view.

What is the best part of working at Cargill?

I really love the collaboration. Every day, I get to work with my PPD teams to share ideas and develop solutions that positively impact our world. There’s something special about a group of people from different backgrounds coming together to achieve a common goal through transformative research and development.

What job-related skills have you learned and developed at Cargill?

I have learned a lot about communication and how to develop my skills. I interact with people working in different regions, industries and business teams every day – these skills have become invaluable.

If you had to describe what you do to someone outside of the industry, what would you say?

I lead an R&D team working to develop good oils and fats that will improve the overall health and quality of life for people all over the world.
