Meet Maria S.

IT Business Relationship Manager, LATAM North

When Maria started her career in technology, in Venezuela, she never imagined that the food industry would become her passion. Nearly 30 years later with Cargill, she has played a major role in the industry, covering the whole supply chain from origination, planning, production, sales and distribution processes. In her career, besides supporting different business units and countries, she made a real-life change when she moved from Venezuela to Mexico to help the company thrive in other markets. A big responsibility, well taken by Maria.

What do you currently do at Cargill?

I am responsible for the Information Technology strategy, adapting technology trends to business strategies covering Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru and Colombia. That means multiple teams, cultures and challenges. Getting to know different markets and making a difference in each one of them, is my daily motivation.

My main responsibility is to identify and adapt technology trends to business strategies, following corporate standards and optimizing IT processes through use of Shared Services, Project Management, outsourcing and emerging tools, implementing ERPs like SAP and JDE, Business Intelligence and Digital Analytics, among other technology trends.

What is your story with Cargill?

I started in Venezuela, I saw this large global company prospecting entry level students and I was one of them. I was responsible for the migration of LATAM HR activities to businesses located in Costa Rica and Brazil. Then I was promoted to IT Director where I could be closer to the business, covering Venezuela operations as the IT BRM for several business units. Seven years ago, I moved to Mexico, when I took over as IT BRM LATAM North where I expanded my support to other markets such as Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru and Colombia operations.

What is next in your career?

After 30 years with the company, and so many life changes and projects, I see myself helping other markets where challenges are different and demand higher levels of data quality and knowledge. My next career path could be in another country or region. If you want to move ahead in your career, the opportunity is there for you and leaders encourage you to take it. They also prepare you for the next move.

Why should someone choose Cargill as an employer?

This is the opportunity of a lifetime. Here you can change the direction of your career several times. Imagine, in the same company you can have different roles, in different markets. I don´t see many companies out there that provide such experience and opportunity.

People need to think big, global and share their ideas to keep improving the business.

We have great structure, amazing technology, and the best people.
