Job Purpose and Impact

The Automation Technician has the responsibility to execute the Automation strategy at this plant in accordance with business needs and corporate defined best practice standards and guidelines. Work including, but not limited to PLC programming, HMI programming, plant network architecture design/troubleshooting, control system design/upgrades and working with maintenance to troubleshoot existing systems and processes. Provide design assistance in the areas of automation, electrical and instrumentation for projects based on current best practices using approved components and standards. Provide expertise and/or support for internal and external resources during the execution of projects.(#LI-ES2)



Key Accountabilities

  • Support activities such as design, testing, production, operation of equipment and systems.
  • Work within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies to help conclude the appropriate approach for new assignments.
  • Develop and recommend procedures and methods and prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Collect, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Handle complex clerical, administrative, technical or customer support issues under minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Management of troubleshooting tools and documentation.
  • Provide work orders and part numbers for SAP
  • Tracking projects to completion
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technical OR Technical diploma  
  • Cargill requires employees be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Must be able to configure and program a variety of control systems including PLC and HMI and VFD systems.
  • Have knowledge of programming languages. 
  • Must be able to update and troubleshoot a range of electrical or instrumentation systems. 
  • Ability to read and update electrical schematics. 
  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 60 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation. 
  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above) 
  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) 
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written) 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word 
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice 
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply

Preferred

  • 3+ years of AE&I experience
  • Knowledge of reliability centeres maintenance, planning and scheduling
  • Automation, Electrical, and / or Instrumentation experience, within the Allen Bradley family of controls
  • Knowledge of predictive technologies like MCE, vibration, infrared, ultrassound, machinery lubrication
  • Able to operate machinery and/or industrial equipment
  • Working knowledge of inventory systems
  • Prior experience in production related work
  • Instrumentation Certification
