Job Purpose and Impact
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety, and process safety management systems within the Animal Nutrition business in Spain. The role serves as a subject matter resource on EHS matters, promoting safe, compliant, and sustainable operational practices. Working in partnership with site leadership and stakeholders, the EHS Specialist helps ensure alignment with company policies, procedures, programs, standards, and applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Key Accountabilities
- Act as the legal representative for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) matters for the Animal Nutrition business in Spain, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and supporting interactions with relevant authorities.
- Support the Plant Manager in maintaining effective relationships with local communities, regulatory bodies, and other external stakeholders, contributing to a positive organizational reputation.
- Support the implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and assist in monitoring, testing, and evaluating EHS performance.
- Collaborate with regional and country EHS teams to support site impact assessments and the management of operating and construction permits.
- Support the development, adaptation, and delivery of EHS training programs in alignment with global, regional, and local requirements; conduct training needs assessments and tailor content to site-specific requirements.
- Travel quarterly to the laboratory in Madrid to assess EHS-related requirements, identify improvement opportunities, and support implementation of corrective actions.
- Visit external warehouse locations biannually to evaluate EHS compliance, identify improvement opportunities, and monitor implementation of agreed actions.
- Coordinate occupational health surveillance activities in collaboration with the appointed occupational health professional.
- Organize, participate in, and document EHS and safety-related meetings.
- Conduct internal EHS audits, including audits at other company locations as required.
- Collaborate with site leadership and relevant stakeholders to support workplace risk assessment activities.
- Support the Plant Manager in obtaining and maintaining required operating permits in coordination with relevant authorities.
- Prepare and submit documentation and reports required under applicable permits and regulatory requirements.
- Support site operations during inspections conducted by regulatory authorities.
- Adapt and implement company and regulatory EHS processes, programs, and controls at site level, ensuring integration into operational procedures, work instructions, and tools while promoting continuous improvement.
- Provide EHS guidance and support to departments and functions across multiple entities and locations.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Master Studies in PRL (Prevencion de Riesgos Laborales)
- Demonstrated working experience in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) functions
- Knowledge of CTAIMA platform
- Knowledge of advanced Spanish language and English (medium)
- MS Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Confirmed ability to deliver processes effectively to optimize business resources
- Knowledge of food safety industry practices and standards
- Basic business acumen and the ability to partner and communicate effectively with business counterparts
- Experience in a SEVESO plant
