Job Purpose and Impact

The Research and Development Manager will provide technical contributions to the development of ingredients and actively lead the day to day operating activities of the team within a specific department. In this role, you will provide leadership to a team of diverse scientists and engineers to execute innovation goals and ensure technical excellence and partner with the global team lead to advise on the prioritization of a portfolio of projects and drive research and development decisions for process improvements and goals supporting business objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Apply scientific knowledge to contribute to research programs in relevant area.
  • Serve as an operational and tactical enabler to develop processes and control mechanisms to ensure compliance with intellectual property laws, regulations and company policies.
  • Provide leadership to establish procedures and tools to manage the intellectual assets.
  • Champion and coordinate scientific innovation growth initiatives across the organization through collaboration with businesses and external partners to identify emerging trends and align research within the team to meet strategic objectives and potential opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment of strategic research plans and priorities across research teams and businesses to create consistencies and efficiencies, aligning with a unified approach across the function.
  • Lead and develop a team, coach and make decisions related to talent management, hiring, performance, and disciplinary actions.
  • Lead product development and improvement projects, ensuring timely execution aligned with business needs
  • Act as the primary R&D representative in the Philippines, closely engaging with the C-JOY Leadership Team and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, product quality, and thorough risk assessment prior to commercialization
  • Drive innovation across products, processes, and technologies to support business growth
  • Provide effective people leadership, guiding the team in prioritizing projects based on urgency, importance, and customer requirements to ensure focus on high-impact deliverables
  • Provide strong on-site leadership, coaching, and real-time technical guidance to R&D team members, particularly in formulation and process development
  • Strengthen team capability through structured people development, including Individual Development Plan (IDP) execution, mentoring, and continuous learning
  • Foster a positive and engaging team culture by promoting collaboration, motivation, and alignment toward shared business goals
  • Support team well-being by creating a psychologically safe environment, demonstrating empathy, and maintaining a professional, low-drama working culture
  • Build strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project delivery
  • Demonstrate agility and adaptability in a fast-changing and sometimes ambiguous business environment, particularly within the dynamic food industry landscape in the Philippines
  • Encourage a fast-learning mindset within the team, enabling quick understanding of new market needs, technologies, and regulatory requirements
  • Promote resilience and a growth mindset, supporting the team to recover quickly from setbacks, learn from failures, and continuously improve
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, food technology or equivalent experience,
  • Minimum requirement of 4 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 5 years or more of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
