Job Purpose and Impact
The Intellectual Property Attorney will handle the intellectual property affairs for the company with collaboration from senior lawyers. In this role, you will responsible for managing a significant patent portfolio and for advising and representing the organization on legal issues primarily concerning patent and trade secret matters
Key Accountabilities
- Work with patent agent team to evaluate invention submissions, prepare and prosecute patent applications and manage global patent portfolios.
- Coordinate general IP activities, assist with patent due diligence, develop IP strategies and provide intellectual property and commercial counseling to business stakeholders.
- Provide legal advice on the patentability of inventions and patent freedom to operate.
- Support intellectual property litigation and dispute resolutions.
- Draft and negotiate intellectual property related agreements and support mergers and acquisition activities.
- Develop, coordinate and provide training for key employees on intellectual property matters.
- You will serve as an expert in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues/problems. You may provide direction to other team members and will be expected to be a key contributor and active team member.
- Be a true business partner, delivering clear and pragmatic advice, with timely and impactful solutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field,
- Juris doctor and licensed to practice law in current jurisdiction and an ability and willingness to be licensed in Minnesota and registration to practice in front of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- Minimum of four years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications
- Minimum of six years of related work experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent academic track record
Master’s degree, doctoral degree, or equivalent experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, biochemistry, food science, or a related field
- Excellent communication, advocacy and drafting skills
- Ability to problem solve using a creative, resilient and flexible style and approach
- Ability to effectively handle conflict and apply judgment in counseling
- Confirmed ability to assess and handle risk
Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave accruals of one hour for every 30 worked, up to 48 hours per calendar year unless otherwise provided by law
